  My Literacy experiences from grades six through twelve (secondary school years).   When looking back on literacy that I have experienced over the years, many books were impactful. The novel,  Hatchet , written by Gary Paulsen, was a story that I will always remember. Not only was the novel very compelling, but it also made me think. The story,  Hatchet , depicts a novel that illustrates a 13 year old boy, Brian, who was very successful at his attempt to survive in the wilderness alone. The way Paulsen portrays strength within the 13 year old teaches readers about independence. Therefore, elements such as Brian surviving the plane crash and adapting by building a shelter, gathering food, and being left with only a hatchet reveals his ability to persevere in times of adversity.                                                         My Word Of The Year!  My focus word of the year is: "Trust" which means belief and faith. I chose this word because it inspires me. This word relates to my Literacy journey in three ways: 1. I feel inner strength when I think of this word. 2. I feel successful because I believe that God will see me through in my journey to achieve my dream to become a reading specialist. 3. I have faith that with hard-work, I will be successful in my Literacy journey. I will continue to aspire to this word by improving confidence in myself and building self reliance, and "trusting," that with hard-work and focus I will be successful!                                                  ...
